Your photos hold memories – but the stories behind them are what bring those memories to life. Here is one of my stories:

This is a photo of my maternal grandmother Ann (middle row, far left), her sisters, her parents, and her sisters’ boyfriends, taken in June 1941 (by my grandfather Fil, I’m guessing) in Central Park, New York. Everyone looks so happy and carefree! My grandfather was still in the Army at the time, stationed on Governor’s Island, New York. And although he was discharged from the Army in August 1941, he went on to work as a radio operator for American Airlines and “flew the hump” – a very dangerous assignment – several times during WWII. My grandparents were married in January 1942, and my mom was born in May 1943, and I can’t imagine how scary it must have been for my grandmother, worrying about my grandfather’s safety flying in Europe and Asia during that time. But I love how happy everyone looks in this photo. All the stress of the future is ahead of them, and here, in the summer of 1941 in New York City, everyone enjoyed a picnic and each other’s company.
This September, I’m participating in Save Your Photos Month with The Photo Managers. The challenge is simple: pick one photo, tell the story behind it, and share it. That’s it.
If you have boxes of photos and no idea where to start… this is what I do for a living – send me a message!
